5 Tips for a Successful Furniture, Appliance and Mattress Delivery
Your new purchase is almost home! Preparing your property before delivery day helps protect your home, prevent delays, and give the CastleUp Logistics team a safe and clear path to complete your delivery.
Whether you are receiving furniture, appliances, mattresses, or a complete room package, follow these five simple tips.
1. Measure Your Space and Delivery Path
Measure both the final placement area and the entire delivery path before your delivery date.
Remember to measure:
- Exterior and interior doorways
- Hallways, staircases, and landings
- Elevator doors and elevator interiors
- Ceiling heights and tight corners
- The final placement area
- Appliance openings, counters, and cabinets
Compare these measurements with the product dimensions listed on your order. Remember to allow extra room for packaging and safe handling.
For refrigerators, ranges, washers, dryers, and dishwashers, confirm that the appliance will fit in the designated space with enough clearance for doors, ventilation, hoses, and electrical connections.
Please inform CastleUp in advance about narrow entrances, spiral staircases, condominium restrictions, elevator reservations, or other access concerns.
2. Remove Old Furniture, Appliances and Mattresses
The delivery area should be empty and ready before our team arrives.
Before delivery day:
- Remove existing furniture from the room
- Remove the old mattress and bed frame
- Empty and disconnect old appliances
- Clear food from refrigerators and freezers
- Remove personal belongings from drawers and cabinets
Removal, disposal, relocation, and haul-away services are not automatically included. If you require one of these services, please contact CastleUp before your delivery date to confirm availability and any applicable charges.
You may also consider donating furniture, appliances, and mattresses that are clean, safe, and in usable condition. Acceptance and pickup services vary by organization.
3. Clear the Delivery Path
Create a wide, unobstructed path from the entrance of your property to the product’s final location.
Please temporarily remove:
- Shoes, boxes, and other clutter
- Accent tables, lamps, and decorations
- Wall art, mirrors, and fragile accessories
- Low-hanging light fixtures, when possible
- Baby gates and doorway barriers
- Items near stairs and tight corners
During winter, please remove snow and ice from the driveway, walkway, stairs, and entrance.
For condominium or apartment deliveries, reserve the elevator and loading area before the scheduled delivery date. Please also notify building management when required.
4. Prepare Appliance Connections and Installation Areas
If you are receiving appliances, make sure the installation area and required connections are ready and accessible.
Depending on the appliance, confirm access to:
- The correct electrical outlet
- Water supply and shut-off valves
- Drain connections
- Dryer ventilation
- Gas connections, when applicable
- Proper flooring and surrounding clearance
Installation is a separate service and must be arranged in advance. Some appliances may require installation by a qualified or licensed technician.
Please do not attempt to disconnect gas appliances yourself. CastleUp’s delivery team may not be able to install an appliance if the required connections are missing, damaged, inaccessible, or incompatible.
5. Protect Your Home and Keep Everyone Safe
Please keep pets in a secure room while the delivery is taking place. The entrance door may remain open while large products are being brought inside.
Children should also remain safely away from the delivery path. Furniture, mattresses, and appliances can be large and heavy, so a clear work area helps prevent accidents.
Protect hardwood, laminate, tile, and other delicate flooring with secured non-slip floor coverings. Remove or securely fasten:
- Doormats
- Area rugs and runners
- Electrical cords
- Loose floor coverings
- Other tripping hazards
Avoid using unsecured plastic coverings because they may become slippery.
